![]() ![]() Same thing would happen with this product, there are more than enough people who would benefit greatly from this, beyond what they can possibly put out into the market. ![]() Also, for those of us who had an iMac before the 5k model, this was a common thing to do, until Apple decided to remove Target Display Mode.Īlso, Elgato capture cards are also pretty niche, since only a small percentage of gamers actually capture/stream, so it's not like they are producing them anywhere close to market saturation. You simply can't get a monitor of that quality without paying a similar price of a brand new iMac, so a product that allows users to keep the iMac and use it as a monitor is a very attractive proposition to those who already have an iMac, especially those looking to buy a laptop. (but not for a long time, we should be in the 2160p era for the same duration as 1080p before we can expect higher res capturing).īut I can be wrong, I only know the iMac does 5k and from my understanding, elgato has a bigger Console userbase than PC/Mac so till we get 5k/8k consoles it may not be smart business wise to release Higher tech, 5k will require $$$ R&D and then if its the ONLY 5k capture card on the market, Elgato can easily get away with a $999.99+ price tag.īecause there are millions of people who already own 5k iMacs, and are faced with the same choice when buying a new computer - given that 5k iMacs have already been around for a while, that is a pretty sizeable potential market. When we get to a point where 2160p is the Norm, we should expect affordable 5-8k capture hardware. There would be no real point to capture at higher than 4k till we get to a point like today where 1080p is mainstream so Elgato can still sell 1080p and 2160p capture hardware. It is a nice dream but we are still on the way to standardizing 4k, like we already did with 1080p. Unless Apple sponsored Elgato for a 5k Apple X Elgato collab capture card then sure. It is too Niche to cater an entire product to. Why would Elgato make this kind of business choice to support just the 1 use case. I am nearly ready to buy an "Elgato HD60 S+" but I would like to have some answers to the above questions first. if the laptop is using a resolution of 1440px will it work? - or are we stuck with 1080 and 4k? What is the flexibility on resolution? i.e. ![]()
